The snow reminds Maddie that time is still passing even while she feels as though everything in the natural world around her has ceased. The snow is a marker of nature’s insistence on moving forward and moving on even in the most difficult of times. She feels the magic of persistence and resolves to try to be the same way even at her most hopeless.
