Granny is Yunjae's grandmother and Mom's mother. She is also never assigned a first name. When Mom is a young woman, Granny wants her daughter to become a writer. She thinks Mom should live a solo artistic life. When Mom falls in love with an unsavory man, Granny disapproves. Mom does not reconnect with her until Yunjae is six, and she realizes she needs Granny's help to raise him. While Mom is anxious and emotional, Granny is witty and soft. Yunjae feels he is more similar to her than to Mom. After her tragic death, Yunjae frequently recalls Granny's words and voice, fearing that her memory will fade away.
