How does Dr. Shim help Yunjae after the tragedy in the novel, Almond?

Though he has been Mom's friend for many years, Yunjae does not meet Dr. Shim until after Granny dies and Mom enters a coma. After the tragedy, Dr. Shim invites Yunjae up to the bakery, where he offers to help support Yunjae financially. Though Yunjae does accept the offer, their dynamic is more than monetary, and eventually grows into a deep friendship.
