Ms. Rue, Mary's fourth-grade teacher, said that Mary wanted to be a teacher like her. She was so ahead of the other students that she would tutor her classmates during lunchtime. They had her tested, and it turned out she could skip at least two grade levels. When Ms. Rue told Mary's mother, her mother threatened to sue the school for unauthorized testing and she would not allow Mary to skip grades. Ms. Rue said it did not make sense to leave Mary in a class where she was not challenged.
