The author uses a first-person perspective in the narrative, alternating between Chung and Cindy’s perspective every three or four chapters. Although the majority of the novel is written from Chung's perspective. Cindy’s first-person narrative is intermittently included in the story to provide a contrast and hypothetical alternative to how Chung’s life would have likely played out had she not been put up for adoption.
