What is the importance of the cemetery in the novel, All This Time?

The cemetery is where Kimberly and Laura are buried, and though the cemetery does exist, neither girl is buried there. Kyle includes a few details in his descriptions, including the fence around the cemetery, a gravestone with the word “goodbye” on it, and the two stones dedicated to Kimberly and Laura. Kyle is dreaming all the events that take place here, including meeting Marley.
