Rion, the communal home that Thom and Tig manage to construct in Milwaukee, is a crucial setting in the novel in large part because Sneha spends the novel believing it is impossible to create. Throughout their friendship, the possibility of Rion has been a sustaining force for Tig, a philosophy student who is tired of living paycheck to paycheck and wants to build stability in their living situation without having to prostrate themselves before a capitalist overlord. Tig's ability to pull the community together with Sneha's help is therefore a testament to the power of friendship and community to overcome even the most deeply-rooted systemic injustices, and Rion serves as a symbol of this power.
