Why is Pete Marino acting out of character... difficult to work with in the novel, All That Remains?

Marino, like Scarpetta, knows that the FBI are withholding information from him, causing him deep frustration. Marino's personal life is in turmoil at the same time, since his wife has left him for another man. These two things combined causes Marino to be dark and angry, difficult to get along with.
