How does the use of wearily impact the meaning of Kropp’s words?

"I don't want to do anything,' replies Kropp wearily . 'you'll be dead one day, so what does it matter? I don't think we'll ever go back."

At this pointthe men are dreaming about what each of them will do when the war is over. Kropp is being a realist. He doesn't want to dream about peace time because he doesn't think they will survive the war.
