Charlotte, Jenny's mother, decides that Jenny should have the memory-altering treatment following her rape so she will not be burdened with the details of it forever. She immediately shuts down her husband's concern over it, and once the decision is made, she goes home, leaving her Tom to stay with Jenny throughout her surgery and recovery.
