What is the author's tone in the novel, All Is Not Forgotten?

The author's language is straightforward. The narrator, as a psychiatrist, explains any psychological concepts that the reader might not otherwise understand. From time to time, these explanations take on a demeaning tone. For instance, he says that he does "not have the time or inclination to educate or convince" readers who disagree with his explanation of guilt (178).
