After Margot leaves Wakarusa as a child, she moves to Indiana and begins working for IndyNow, a local newspaper. She covers the crime beat and wants to focus on investigative reports. She lives by herself with no close friends or family. When her beloved uncle suffers a decline in his mental health because of dementia and the loss of his wife, she sublets her apartment, begins working remotely, and leaves Indianapolis behind to return to her hometown.
