How was the relationship between the writer and her son?

Maya and her son are very close. His accident, which left him with a broken necl, leaves Maya unsure.... traumatized and unable to function outside of her worry. Over time, he heals physically, all while displaying admirable maturity and sense of direction. In turn, Maya is able to remove her focus from her son and place that same energy on regaining her own sense of self.
