The book’s target audience, as the author himself identifies it, is young readers – more specifically, teenagers or slightly younger. Its use of language and its tonal qualities reflect the author’s intention to connect with such readers. There is a kind of restrained informality about the language and vocabulary, the occasional curse word but more often than not a sense that the author is speaking to the sort of person that he once was in language that he remembers using himself.
