The main body of the book is structured in four parts. The content of each part relates to a particular aspect of the author’s experience growing up both Black [sic] and queer [sic]. Each part has its own title, and is identified as an “act,” in the same way a play would be. Act 1 is titled “A Different Kid,” and focuses on the author’s childhood, while Act 2 is titled “Family,” and focuses on the author’s relationships with different members of his family. Act 3 is titled “Teenagers,” and focuses on the author’s later years in middle school and high school, while Act 4 is titled “Friends,” and focuses on the author’s time at university.
