Moldova is the Eastern European country where the narrator and Sasha travel together. Moldova is also the country from which Sasha and her family immigrated when she was seven years old. Convinced she has "unfinished business" there, Sasha impulsively buys two plane tickets and begs the narrator to accompany her (181). Flattered that Sasha wants her company, the narrator agrees without asking too many questions. Throughout their time here, the narrator not only learns more about Sasha, but is compelled into reflection on her own ancestral past.
