Why is Einstein no longer a pacifist in Chapter Fourteen?

Einstein realizes that, while peace is preferable and something for which to strive, it is not always realistically possible. Nations must sometimes forgo peace in order to preserve freedom; in the case of Japan, Einstein sees that sometimes aggression must be returned.
