Einstein's first lecture runs four hours and then has to be translated, since he does not speak Japanese. He feels awful for making the first group of people sit for that length of time and cuts his other lectures much shorter so as not to inconvenience or bore his audience. Unfortunately, his Japanese audience members feel slighted at the shorter speech and assume that he has some preference for the first group to which he speaks.
