For what purpose does Palmer contact O’Halloran in the novel, Alaskan Holiday?

Sawyer O’Halloran is the bush pilot who agrees to pick Josie up from Ponder. He is a friend of Palmer. Even though Palmer does not want Josie to leave, he contacts O’Halloran to get her on her way back to Seattle because he also does not want her to have to stay if she is unhappy.
