What happens to Ben the night Dan is robbed?

Randy wakes to gunshots and picks up his pistol as he races to the Henrys. They stand around the largest German shepherd he's seen. The dog has a collar and tag marked Lindy. Ben saw the dog as a wolf and gives Randy the shotgun and sobs. Randy tells Ben dogs may be wolves in times like these and returns his shotgun.
