Luli is the only person from one of her previous home towns with whom Camille has kept in contact. Normally Camille would burn the bridges between herself and her previous friends since they could not possibly see one another again. Luli, however, would not allow Camille to cut her out and they continue to be just as close despite the distance between them. It is Luli who convinces Camille that Alec was not right for her and she should contact her boyfriend in Chicago. Luli plays the part of conscience for Camille in this novel.
