In the first novel, the lack of options for expanding her horizons in Stortfold made the location symbolic of Louisa being held back from her full potential. In contrast, in After You, the town has more positive connotations and reminds Louisa of how much she loves her family and has benefited from the strength she has as a result of coming from a stable and loving background.
