What did Miss Prior keep inside of her locket in the novel, Affinity?

Miss Prior kept a lock of blond hair in her locket, which was originally implied to have belonged to her father. It is later revealed, however, that the lock of hair belongs to Helen Prior, Miss Prior's sister-in-law and former lover.
