How is Aeneas a hero in Vergil's Aeneid? What qualities does he show?

Aeneas is a great warrior and talented leader. He is pious, compassionate, and selfless. Always deferential to the gods, Aeneas sometimes experiences conflicts between what he wants to do, and the things he sees as his duty. An inspiration to his men, Aeneas tempers disillusionment by motivating his men. He is equally devoted to both the gods and man, always placing duty first.
