describe Tom's elaborate plan to free Jim
Tom makes all kinds of plans to free Jim. He sees Jim's captivity as "the stupidest arrangement I ever seen. You got to invent all the difficulties." Tom wants to saw the leg of Jim's bed, he wants to dig a moat around Jim's cabin, and he wants to make a ladder out of sheets instead of using a rope ladder. Tom's plan also requires Jim to keep a journal, and he decides to use knives instead of picks and shovels to dig Jim out.
