Why is Adèle afraid of living in the house in Caen in the novel, Adèle?

The man who previously owned the house in Caen had a wife who died in a sickbed in one of the rooms. Adèle is terrified of the house because she does not want to die alone in a house in the middle of nowhere, no matter how nice of a house it is.
