Fiona Brewer from About a Boy is Marcus's psychologically damaged mother. She fancies herself a hippie and continues to live that type of lifestyle, even though it no longer suits her or her son. We learn that she never wanted to be a mother, a fact that is contributing to her clinical depression. When she attempts suicide after moving from Cambridge to London, it forces Marcus to seek out help for himself, and he finds Will.
