At the start Part II, Deya asks for directions to the bookstore, and when she finds it, she describes it as standing on the end of an “inconspicuous block on Broadway” (124). The outside is “painted a bright, moroccan blue, standing out from the red-brick-faced shops around it” (124). This description demonstrates a physical contrast of Arab culture with American culture, however with the bookstore finding its own space within this.
