How is Officer Manit different than the other police officers in the novel, A Wish in the Dark?

Unlike many of the officers, Manit has not fallen victim to the power of his position. He often seeks out Somkit in order to give him a helping hand, though other officers believe this indicates he is too soft on criminals. As the novel comes to a close, Officer Manit and his wife are in the process of adopting Pong and Somkit.
