What is the theme in A Virtuous Woman by Kaye Gibbons?

Certainly grief is a major theme in the novel. The novel begins with Jack grieving Ruby's death but Grief extends to other areas of the novel. Ruby grieves the life she had with her first husband and June grieves the fact that she is invisible to her mother.
