Why does Coach Hart support ending Shirin and Ocean's relationship in the novel, A Very Large Expanse of Sea?

Coach Hart believes Ocean is the key to winning a championship, which is important to him. He then decides Shirin is in the way of that championship because of the public outcry over Ocean befriending a Persian girl, in addition to the fact that Shirin is distracting Ocean from practicing.
