Harry Rex's and Jake's vehicles reflect more than merely a matter of taste, but of personality in several ways. Jake's Saab is the only one in Ford County. It is purchased on loan, and is beyond his realistic means. Harry Rex is a depicted as a slob, which is reflected by the pickup he owns, which is filthy. Harry Rex does not abide by the rules, which is reflected by his pickup's registration being four years out of date. But Harry Rex is practical. He recognizes Jake is not likely to be the target of a sniper in his pickup as he would in his Saab.
