Why does Jo attack Peter, half-laughing, half-crying?

Jo is jealous of Helen's attention. Peter is taking up Helen's time, and though Jo is used to her men flitting in and out of their lives, it is very different with Peter because Helen is planning on marrying him. She also resents Peter telling her what to do, because he is not her father and really has no interest in her whatsoever.
