Why did Janine use her brother as an example against abortion?

When Janine was 12 and her mother 43, her mother got pregnant. They doctors told her parents that the baby would have Down's syndrome, but they refused to abort the baby. As Janine grew up with her brother, she found joy in being with him and in his successes. Because of all she had gained from his brith, she used him as an example of why babies should not be aborted.
