How did George learn how to manage his daughter's hair?

Lil's hair was unmanageable. George would try to brush it, but Lil would cry. One day the pastor's wife, Earlene, told him that she had a child with hair that was unmanageable too. She told him how she would wash and condition her child's hair and braid it so it wouldn't tangle at night. After that, George knew how to manage his daughter's hair.
