Why is the Pierpont Plantation in danger of dying without issue?

The Pierponts have two daughters. One is 24 and the other is 21. That is very late for a girl at that time to marry. The 24-year-old is probably unmarriageable. If the girls do not get a husband soon, the Pierpont Plantation is in danger of dying without issue.
