Why does Mme. Simon nurse Félicité as she is dying?

It seems that Mme. Simon nurses Félicité as she is dying because, as she is initially described, she is a good woman. A bit later, another reason is suggested when she reflects that some day she too will die in the same way. Therefore, her care for Félicité is, at least in part, out of sympathy with her condition as one that she too must someday share. Perhaps she hopes that she will be cared for in the same way when she needs it.
