Félicité is extremely worried about Victor, but doesn't tell anyone about it. When the narrator explains this, it is followed immediately by saying that "Madame Aubain had worries of her own about her daughter." If this is meant to be Félicité's thought, than it seems like she is keeping her own concerns from Mme. Aubain because she doesn't want to trouble her with more worry. On the other hand, we have already seem Mme. Aubain slight the value of Felicite's feelings and so perhaps she feels that no one can offer real sympathy.
