A Simple Heart
To what extent would you say that this story is about Félicité? What do you think Flaubert wanted to say by writing a short story about a person like Félicité?

It definitely seems like this story is about Félicité. She is the central figure in every scene and the book ends with her death. She is portrayed as a relatively simple person with a good heart and a lot of love to give. She always seems to be undervalued by the people she loves and takes care of, yet she continues to love them. Maybe Flaubert wanted to show an example of a person who is capable of unconditional love. But, the problem is that the story ends up feeling kind of sad. Félicité loves everyone so much, but they don't seem to appreciate her and none of them are around her when she dies. It doesn't seem like she had a particularly happy life. I wonder if Flaubert wanted her to set an example for people to follow or maybe he wanted to point out how sad it can be if a good person isn't recognized for what she's worth by the people around her.
