How does Flaubert choose to describe the procession of Corpus Christi and Félicité's death? What affect does this have?

Flaubert goes back and forth between descriptions of the procession of Corpus Christi and Félicité's death. If it were a movie, the scene would be cutting back and forth between the two shots and showing them progressing in tandem. The effect of this is to associate the religious celebration with Félicité's death. It seems to give her death a grandeur that would not have been there if you only looked at the descriptions of her death.
