Do you think it's significant that Félicité misses Virginie's death because she goes back to lock up in case of thieves?

It certainly seems strange that Félicité suddenly worries about thieves and that this prevents her from getting to see Virginie before she dies. There is a parallel between her missing Virginie and her missing Victor. In both cases, she tries to see them before they go and arrives just barely too late. Already there is a clear parallel between Virginie and Victor for Félicité. She loves them both equally and even thought at one point that it would be natural they should share the same fate. It seems like the introduction of a concern for thieves is simply a device to generate this parallel instead of being significant in itself.
