Why did Dawn agree to help Thelma Barston capture Tully?

After Dawn's father died, she got in trouble and ended up in jail in Austin. Her stepmother, Thelma Barston, agreed to continue giving her allowance if she helped the Stiltons capture Tully. Despite her crush on Tully, she agrees to do it for the money.
