What is Sophie Diamant's story?

Sophie invites Tully aboard her boat for breakfast and she tells Tully her story. She was born in Corsica and raised by her American grandfather after her father dies when she is young. Her grandfather was an American from Key West. She went to school in Paris, where she studied photography and eventually landed a job on Jacques Cousteau's boat, the Calypso. Later, she made her way as a nature photographer and met Larry Moore, a mountain climbing guide from Montana. They began an affair and Larry promised, after he returned from an expedition, that he would build her "a boat and take her to Key West" Sophie became pregnant, but unfortunately Larry was killed, leaving Sophie everything he had. Sophie went to Corsica to have her daughter and called her Montana. She did what Larry asked, and Sophie and Montana began sailing.
