The particular authorial device employed in A Rose for Emily allowed the narrator to be both a witness to what occured, as well as provide invaluable insider's knowledge to someone from the outside (the reader). However, it also makes the reader ask whether or not the narrator is necessarily a reliable witness as it is clear he has as many prejudices as the rest of the town where Ms. Emily and her motives are concerned.
