Once Ralston graduates from high school, he moves to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University. He graduates in engineering, which lands him a job with Intel. He works for Intel in Arizona, and then transfers to Washington, before returning south to New Mexico. Eventually he quits Intel to work at Ute Mountaineering in Aspen, CO.
