What characteristics of Ralston returns once safe in the helicopter and hospital?

Ralston is an analytical, technical person who usually has a good head on his shoulders. But by the end of the week in the canyon, he loses his rationality and is going delirious. However, once in the helicopter, he keeps a calm voice and starts to give a tour to the men on board.
