What is the author's style in A Planet Called Treason by Orson Scott Card?

This book is delightful science fiction in its language. The first chapter sets out with vocabulary and assumptions that set the reader up for a magical otherly world quite different from our own, although originating from Earth in many of its assumptions and meanings.
