Who is Bird's Wife from A Personal Matter and what is their importance?

Bird's wife remains unnamed throughout the narrative. She is referred to several times throughout the text, but she only actually appears once, in Chapter 8. Bird's wife appears to know her husband very well (both his good points and bad), and she believes it's important for him to accept the responsibilities that go along with being a husband and father.
