A very in-depth chapter by chapter summary is available via the study pack, but the first couple of chapters of this book deals with the people of Chipping Cleghorn reading an advertisement in the paper inviting them all to a murder. The bulk of chapter two introduces the people who live in the town and what they all think of the ad. Most of them think that it is a joke, while others think it might be something else.
