Margery Childe is the leader of the Temple. In her 40s, Margery combines her religious teachings with numerous charities to help women. She is also a supporter of women's rights, specifically, the right to vote. Margery Childe is described as mysterious and private. Over the course of the novel, she becomes the primary suspect in Mary's investigation of the mysterious deaths of the members of the Temple.
